Dr. Christopher Moody

Dr. Christopher Moody is an Associate Professor of Theology for Liberty University and lead pastor of Beaumont's First Baptist Church. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Systematic Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor's in Biology  from Texas A&M. Though Biology teaches everything has a definitive life cycle, good Theology affirms that God is the God of the Resurrection. Motivated by this truth in 2008, Dr. Moody accepted the lead pastorate of the then-struggling historic Beaumont's First Baptist.

Founded in 1872, Beaumont's First Baptist Church would grow to what today would be defined as a mega-church. However, by 2008 this once-thriving assembly had dwindled to a few hundred faithful parishioners meeting in a predominantly vacant structure. With the support and service of a faithful remnant Dr. Moody began the difficult task of shifting one of the oldest churches in Texas from a traditionally programmatic methodology to that of a personal Disciple-Making model of ministry.

What started as a tiny spark planted in the tinder of a few hearts and heads would breathe life into a growing flame. Like the imagery of a candlelight service, disciples passed this fledgling flame to the few they were discipling. Lives invested in the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and the Church as God intended began to grow what had been a flickering flame into a torch set upon a hillside. This process has not been perfect, nor without cost or mistake, but it has been good. Today Beaumont's First Baptist Church is first and foremost a disciple-making church.

On any given Sunday Dr. Moody can be found preaching exegetically through the Word of God, and during the week at a coffee shop or burger joint investing into another generation of disciples. Apart from the Lord and disciple-making, Chris' four greatest loves are his wonderful wife Wendi and his three daughters (Whitney, Trinity, and Audrey). When not preaching or teaching. Chris is probably on a horse, as he says, "playing cowboy."
