My name is Anna Kate Browne, and I am the College Minister here at Beaumont’s First Baptist Church. I grew up within Beaumont’s FBC and was taught the value of discipleship from a young age. After giving my life to Christ in our children’s ministry, I began to serve within our faith family, volunteering at VBS, Christmas parties, and anything they would let me show up at! However, when I went off to college, I had no plans to go into ministry. I wanted to see what life outside of my hometown was like, and I had big plans for myself and my future as I headed off to the University of Texas at Austin in 2019.
During my time in college, those big plans changed. The Longhorn Baptist Student Ministry became my second family, and it was there that I truly began to see the vision of reaching college students with the Gospel and equipping them to share their faith boldly. I began sharing the Gospel in my classes, discipling underclassmen, and spending my summers interning at Galveston Urban Ministries. Then, right before my last year of school, God called me into full time ministry. I finished up my BA in Journalism in 2022 and began interning with the Longhorn Baptist Student right away, learning how to.
After interning at the Baptist Student Ministry for a year, I began working for Galveston Urban Ministries, where I had interned in college, as their Missional Engagement Coordinator. I began working on my Masters of Divinity in Biblical Studies through New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. For one of my classes, I had to put together a presentation on how I would implement a discipleship program for a local church. I instantly thought of Beaumont’s FBC as they did not have a college ministry, and our youth pastor, Nate Jordan, was always so supportive of me and my pursuits. I emailed Nate my final presentation only to get an email back saying that he had forwarded my presentation to the entire FBC staff. I later got a call asking me to join FBC’s staff as our faith family’s first College Minister, and after a lot of prayer, I was happy to accept.
I joined our staff in May of 2024 and began working to create a community and a landing place for Lamar and college-aged students. The passion of this generation of believers is so inspiring and beautiful, and I am so blessed to get to be a part of it. I pray that our college ministry, Engage, would be a community that raises up strong followers of Christ who are on fire for God and are dedicated to making disciples of all nations and discipling others.
